Johnny Depp IS The Riddler?!

johnny depp as willy wonka.jpgHoly A-list villain, Batman! Well, now that this has been thrown up as a possibility, the next Batman movie can't happen without it: Slashfilm reports that Johnny Depp might sign on to play big Bat baddie The Riddler in The Dark Knight sequel.

Please let it happen … please let it happen … please let it happen …

The Riddler (a.k.a. Edward Nygma) was last played on the big screen by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever (trivia: Michael Jackson allegedly wanted the role), and current Doctor Who star David Tennant has mentioned that he'd be interested in donning a Riddler suit for Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan's next Bat-venture. But again, now that Depp's been tossed up as a potential Riddler, will anyone else do?

The Dark Knight dominance of the summer box office continued last weekend, by the way, with the superhero drama raking in another $48.3 million, pushing its three-week domestic box office tally to $394.9 million and pushing it to eighth place on the list of all-time biggest Hollywood money earners.

It IS a great movie … Quick q: Have you seen The Dark Knight more than once? Those box office totals suggest fans are seeing it multiple times … if you haven't seen it more than once yet, WILL YOU see the Christian Bale/Heath Ledger/Aaron Eckhart/Maggie Gyllenhaal gem again before it leaves theaters?

I've seen it 5 times! I absolutely adore this movie...and Heath...words can't come anywhere close to describing his performance! I would love to see Johnny as The Riddler as he has been my favorite actor since I was little

I've seen it IMAX and plain ol' cineplex. Best movie of the year so far. I would only see it again if it were IMAX.

Already talking about who the next villan will be, but how about who is going to be Robyn, or did everyone forget this important character to the Batman series.
I mean, sure, all the bad guys that Batman fights are cool, but unless they are going to go by the whole, Joker escapes all the time and Batman fights off Penguin, Poison Ivy, and the riddler, who even though were in the series a lot, were minor villans who were caught very easily because of their predictability, then who will play the Joker next time? I like the idea of Catwoman though, and how about Barbara Gordon, I haven't even seen reference to him having a daughter. She became Batwoman and then the Oracle if I remember right. So how about those roles. If they really do a Riddler movie again, i'll be sad. He was such a lame character in the comic book, always caught so simply even though he was so smart.
I want to see the Bane series myself, when Batman gets broken and fights back. And then they can do the Batman Returns series, where there is an awsome Batman vs Superman fight. These are the next two movies (or three) that I want to see.

I'd love to see the villain BANE come to the big screen. He was one of Batman's best comic foe. He was used a little in the film "Batman and Robin", but they totally blew it. The character was a total waste. It would nice to see him used to his best ability.

I think it would be a tragedy if the next batman movie is not Dark Knight Returns. In collaboration with Frank Miller and co-starring Jack Nicholson as the old fat joker. This is the only imaginable way I can see the next batman movie "out-doing" Dark Knight.

simple fact that there is no talk about batman 3 yet because in the recent issue of entertainment weekly the cover story is the dark night and in the article it mentions in there that no one knows if there will be another batman simpl;y because the director of batman begins and the dark night only signed a contract for 2 movies and because of what happened to bale on the night of the euro premier and considering the next terminator movie and a biographical movie that he plays the lead role in the director mentions he wants to see how bale does in the spotlight before he considers anything.....

i'd cream over the chance to see The Dark Knight Returns adapted for the big screen.
however, you have the entire superman complication to worry about.

the problem with movies like this is that we believe they should tell the same old stories over and over again. batman is this way, the joker is that way. the joker blows stuff up, and it all takes place in the current times (more or less).

i'd love to see the studios and the powers that be take a real chance (as making Dark Knight/Batman the way it was wasn't really a chance but finally doing the damn thing correctly).

granted the cost of producing a comic series isn't nearly that of a big budget movie, but it's time for something different. having a riddler, catwoman, etc. VS Batman driven film wouldn't necessarily be bad... but it's not going to go anywhere other than where Dark Knight went. the bar was raised from Batman Begins to Dark Knight considerably. to simply create another Dark Knight would make money, and a ton of it, but i doubt it would be covering any new ground.

so, take dark knight returns. somehow work around superman/green arrow if such a thing can be done (i'd be against it, but it's all about money and ownership with the studio types). old joker. old two-face included (as we didn't officially see him go into the ground), girl robyn, the entire thing...

i guess the question is do they play it safe, or do they keep going for more?

remember a year or two ago when Hugh Jackman was being hyped as the 'only' Harvey Dent?

Then Aaron Eckhart came along, and how can you deny that he fit the role perfectly. There are plenty of actors other than Depp who could give a deeper performance than him (not to take away from Depp's great skill). Though, I have to admit, he would bring a certain presence and celebrity to the role that few others might be able to do.

there has been mention of barbra gordon the only problem is she is like 7 in the current films they talk breefly about her when they tell her jim is dead they she says go look after you sister who of cource is barbra. :-) and i so can see deep being the riddler but jolie as catwoman i would kill my self! what about milla jovovich she would be awesome as catwoman!

johnny depp can't be the riddler, he was shown in the last film as the guy who was trying to blackmail fox. the real guy to play the riddler has already been cast unless he goes through some kind of physical transformation
