REVIEW: Sex and the City: The Movie
I'll keep this one short and sweet (though the movie, clocking in with a 135-minute running time, is anything but short): I give the SATC movie two very enthusiastic thumbs up, four stars, an A … whatever grading system you want to use, it was worth the wait.
Confession: Going in, my enthusiasm for the movie had taken a hit, thanks to months and months of rumors about the movie's storyline. Didn't it almost feel like, between trailers, clips, rumors, scores of magazine and TV interviews and rampant spoilers everywhere, that you'd almost heard and seen everything there was to hear and see about the movie?
That had dampened the potential fun for me, but – and no worries, NO SPOILERS AHEAD – I am happy to report that, even if you've been following all the pre-release coverage, there are still surprises to be had.
The movie's fun, sweet, sad, heartfelt, and, best of all, truly created with fans of the show in mind. So many TV shows adapted as big-screen movies turn out badly because there seems to be no purpose, beyond the obvious box office expectations, for them to be made.
Not so with the SATC flick. It's a slow ride, lots of laughs, outrageous fashions and emotional bumps along the way (another confession: I loved the show, but am not one of the Magnolia cupcake-eating, Louboutin-wearin' devoted, and I still cried through many more parts of the movie than I wanted those around me to see), but I can't imagine that any fan of the show will not be satisfied once they've left the theater.
So, let's hear your reactions after you've seen the movie … didja love it? Hate it? Can't wait for the sequel? Did it live up to your expectations? Are you already planning to see it again?

I truly enjoyed myself. It did live up to what I expected. I had heard early reviews and told everyone to keep their judgments to themselves. If you are a tru SATC fan, you don't care; you want/have to see what happens next. Crazy fashions. What was she thinking with those leg warmers? They are not back in style. Carrie nevers matches so I guess that is what "fashion sense" is all about. Everyone was great. The story line may have been predictable in some parts, but who cares?!?!?
I can't wait for the DVD.
Oh, I just LOVED it!!!
It had everything that it needed and nothing it didn't!
And now that I know how it ends, I can go back and see it without the stress! ;-)
I Loved it!! Just like others said, worth the wait and plenty of surprises to boot:0) Every emotion you could possibly have in a movie, they nailed in the storyline. One minute you were crying with them, then someone would joke and lighten the mood. The theatre was right in sink with it, as I was wiping my tears away laughing with them.
The fashion was still there, each character grew over the years and the creativity of the story was anything but boring.
As for a sequal, I think it is a great ending to one of the best HBO television series for women that is has ever had to offer. It gives satisfaction but most of all, closure.
If a sequal is made, I am afraid they may go overboard, but if Executives and Producers, Patrick King get another brilliant script, then I say go for it. I will not miss it, but I won't count on it either, great movie. I don't think I have ever dressed up with other girlfriends to see a chick flick, but with a movie like this, it is mandatory, especially if you are die hard fans like we are. The city, the magic and characters all leave something satisfying when you leave the theatre. As you see its 3 days later and we are "STILL" talking about it:0)
That tells you something about how great it was and how much it exceeded everyone's expectations who didn't think it could fly against Indy...but I knew better:0) Women always rule...hee hee. I love Indy, but Sex and the City, tops it, AAA+++! Can't wait for the DVD to release!
I have not been this excited about a movie since 1997's release of Titanic fever. Go see it...no need to be a fan or understand how the series ended to go see the SATC movie. It recaps all 6 seasons in the first 7 minutes of the movie. Wahooo...
i loved it. A+, worth the wait
I chuckled, I laughed, I cried.....it was fabulous!
It wasn't great. Those 5 of you that reviewed it and liked it must never have watched the original series for 6 Seasons. Because the Movie did not live up to the series nor had the GREATNESS of the SERIES FINALLY!! Now that gave you goose bumps. Even the charcters weren'tr themselves must have been different writers Carrie would never have hired a decorator, and as for Samatha driving a Mini Van. Were they trying to just plug that particular model. What next she was going to drive around the neighborhood kids. Even Miranda where was the gutsy strong Harvard Grad attorney we know and love. She splits up with her hubby and lives in squaler. No you guys that liked it are just hard up to see anything in the Movies since there is nothing to see.
Clarissa, What is with the hating on others?? Do you simply pride yourself on fixating negativity so that you can feel good about yourself?
This blog is about the SATC movie, not what you thought about the others comments.
Me being included in the top 5 that reviewed before you, did watch the series, do you NOT READ? Die Hard fans like it, where others who don't understand and DO NOT have open minds would NEVER understand, casing point, you for example. Get a clue, I am not just defending the movie itself...it didn't make #1 at the box office because it was unsatisfactory to fans, or people were not pleased. Or not because there was nothing else to see, it was simply because it was gr8.
Part of the story had to do with character changes and growing, and they implicated that in this movie. It wasn't to stay in the year 2000, where nobody ever changes, like we are in some twilight zone. Everyone learns from experiences, people grow, everyone changes, and therefore decisions these characters might have made 5 years ago, I am positive they would not make the same mistakes. So that was why they showed them making different decisions when it comes to their lives.
Samantha drove a Mercedes SUV not a VAN, get your facts straight before dissing and misleading false information.
Miranda FINALLY changed and wasn't the hard up attorney we all knew because she softened up for someone who really loved her, and vise versa, people do all sorts of things they didn't think they would do in the name of love, guess you have yet to experience that..lol...
Carrie simplified her life without so much fashion and high cost maintenance like she use to be and Charlotte finally buckled down and told BIG, A.K.A. John Preston that she always stuck up for him.
So while each of these characters stayed the same in some ways, such as for the friendships, they also changed to be happy with whom they are and/or whom they are with etc...LMAO then in response to your final comment, that we top 5 are hard up to see anything because there is nothing to see.
Didn't you see it too?? Maybe not, because apparantely you have no idea what you talking about as far as clues go.
If you were not excited about seeing it or didn't care that much to write a review, not about the movie but about others comments, then why did you go see it?
Next time save the space for someone else, and save your time, next time just rent the DVD and leave your bratty comments to yourself.
Sounds like to me all your rant was, is from a bitter, nagging, cold hearted individual who needs to fall in love themselves and have someone care for you, and get laid badly.
Next time rent a porn and take a lesson from Samantha in SATC and use your vibrator before you post any further comments...lol..maybe your heart will lighten up a bit.
Good grief...what hate, I feel sorry for you. Anyone else that feels they need to diss on others comments and divert from the actual blog comment should just save it and just remember, NUMBER ONE AT THE BOX OFFICE, those numbers don't lie, regardless of what a few little diss comments say on here.
Now that I defended myself and the rest of the crew who loved it and others who will post they love it after this, I don't plan to go back and forth like a childs game. When you come at others, for this case, me, then I am allowed to speak my own peace too:0)
The End!!
Whew!! Way to go Violetsroses, thanks for the defense on all our behalf. The blog would be more pleasant if haters didn't comment on others but focused & stuck to the topic at hand...you're right, but people like them don't have their own opinions so they need to rag on others instead! Let them stew in their own misery, while we stick to the actual topic:0)
I also agree with the above comments except, Clarissa.
Loved the movie, it had its ups and downs, joys and sorrows...no disappointments here, must see..way to go Michael Patrick King. Well done script, & much worth the wait, a big thank you to you and the writers:0)
it isn't the personification of sex but it will do.
Very entertaining, without a doubt. However, I'm not sure the film or the characters themselves are sending the right message to young women today. For a little more reality, check out this trailer on YouTube about a new documentary about being single:

It was a trip down memory lane. Very pleasant to watch.
