What makes it such a nifty gifty: It's not only one of - I'd argue THE - best mobster drama of all time, but it's also one of the best family sagas of all time.
Sadly, this year many of us find ourselves in, shall we say, less-than-flush cash situations ... we're broke, ya'll! But that doesn't mean we have to go all Scrooge McDuck when it comes to holiday gifts.
In fact, because of the economic crunch we're all in these days, DVDs are the perfect present, because 1) there are great options for everyone on your list, 2) there are great options in every price range and 3) there are killer sales everywhere in Retail Land this year, beginning with tomorrow's post-Turkey Day Black Friday sales (check out Black Friday 2008 for a list!).
Maybe it was the fact that it was summer and the books follow the girls through four different summers. Or maybe it was because I enjoy a good story about real female friendship. Either way, I fell in love with the stories of Tibby, Bridget, Carmen and Lena.
When the first movie came out, my sister and I rushed to the theater, and I vividly remember us tearing up at the end of the film. When the second movie came out, things were a bit different. I was working and saw the movie with a few other critics at a screening. It was different than going with my sister, but I still teared up during the sequel. Luckily none of the other critics saw me!
I also interviewed the cast of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, which made me realize just how much fun the actresses--America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively--have together. Their rapport with each other makes the movie come to life, as you realize that their friendship is in real life and reel life.
And that's why you need to check out the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 DVD. Along with the deleted scenes, the "Jump Off a Cliff" featurette and the gag reel will have you smiling the whole time. Who doesn't love to know that the cast had as much fun making the movie as you did watching it?
